Not to be overlooked

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers
Fans of hack n slash should pick this up. As should anyone that likes a Doctor Who-esque storyline. Fantastically told story, with the per usual hack n slash gameplay type combining everyone's favorite characters from both the renowned and romanticized Three Kingdoms Era of China and the Sengoku Era of Japan (yes, real time periods, with real warriors) with a completely original storyline. The graphics are amazing as expected. I had to say this game is perfect for "hardcore gamers" but truth is anyone can enjoy it, from casual to hardcore. Don't expect any earth shattering revolutionary changes to the gameplay, but play it for what it is - a game that allows you to enjoy seeing chinese and japanese warlords interact and fight against a demonic army featuring the fabled mythical beast, the Hydra.
The reason this game might be overlooked is because it was released very closesly to Hyrule Warriors (also by the same company, just featuring Legend of Zelda characters instead of real warlords) and all the buzz went there. But rest assured, the time traveling story of this game is marvelous as well instead of being a scattered headache as most time traveling stories become
This was my first taste of the Orochi line of Dynasty Warriors games. I'm extremely fond of the franchise and certainly still cherish my copy of DW3 from high school. I got back heavily into the series when 7 was released, and then 8. I recently purchased my PS4 and went on the hunt for this game. I was definitely surprised.
All of the mechanics and basics remain the same. So there was the instant years of familiarity. If you've played any of them (and you should have, else shame on you!) then you know everything already - aside from a few added perks. Such as the triple rush and use of a three person party. The sound is true to the franchise and remains on par with previous installments. One thing that did catch me off guard was the use of the Japanese voice actors with no English dubbing. I don't particularly mind, but I did miss random things in battles. I'd be joyously slaying the masses and not reading the text when some vital fact would pop up. That's a bit of hassle to attempt to read and play at times. The only gripe I actually have with the sound is that I would love to have had the characters speak their native tongue. For instance, have Joan of Arc speak French, Achilles speak Greek, and Rachel speak English. I thought that would have been a really neat additive that would've added depth.I don't speak Japanese, so it's all Greek to me, anyway!
The one thing I don't much really care for is the story. The original context of the Three Kingdoms is a very rich and romancing plot. It's actually really fun to play through during each installment. This one feels contrived. I believe this is a continuation of the previous Orochi game and I can pick up on what's going down, but I'm just not really interested. Rather than fighting on really cool Chinese (wait, why are they speaking Japanese again..?) terrain, it's Demon-ized and Demon-infested areas. I just don't dig the atmosphere and it draws away from the experience. The levels involving some of the more historical figures are really cool (such as finding the Trojan horse), but the ones associated with the Underworld (or Overworld, otherworld, alternate dimension) just aren't engaging.
That being said, the graphics are great. The PS4 does allow for a multitude of things to be going on all at once. I haven't noticed any lag per se and it's nice to have the battlefield littered with hack-n-slash fodder.
I definitely enjoy the game and would recommend it to any fan, but I'd suggest getting it at a good deal. With Empires around the corner, it has more potential for lasting appeal and engrossing gameplay. What really makes this game fun and appealing is the addition of otherwise unusable characters and combinations.
On a side note, why haven't they rebooted Dynasty Tactics? That series was Amazing and would sell extremely well in the limited console strategy market!
This game is unbelievable. It's a great collaboration of most Koei Tecmo games. Even my cousin liked this game and he likes nothing that isn't Call of Duty, Need for Speed, or Minecraft. My cousin and I have played this for hours on end. As of now this is my favourite game on PS4 and will be until Saint Row 4 Re-elected and then Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round comes out. There is only one problem with this game: it needs English voice acting. Overall this game is extraordinary especially for Japanese game!
Best warriors game so far and amazing story. I just wished they had more cutscenes and less explanation. I was extremely disappointed by no English voices but the game was too much fun to play. Gauntlet mode was very challenging and fun. Dlc were great but too expensive. I really hope koei makes a new orochi game and this time with English voice actors.
